Westies Joggers - We are up and running!

Published Sun 28 Jun 2020

Westies Joggers will be up and running onwards from 4th July! Please read this very carefully.

We have Council permission to resume our activities at the Lake, albeit under strict altered conditions in accordance with a Covid-19 plan and issued permit. The consequence of non-compliance is the discontinuation of our Saturday morning events.

Refer to attached Westies Joggers - Guidelines for Managing COVID 19 @ 10.6.2020

Our go-forward conditions include:

Social distancing to be practiced AT ALL TIMES

No more than 20 in any grouping of people

Traceability:

  • We, the Club, MUST have a record of every person attending each and every Saturday morning, and an attendance register will be maintained.

  • For persons participating in the chip-timed race, you do not need to do anything; your attendance will be recorded on that day by the timing system.

  • For ALL others, and this includes family, friends, members not participating, 5-minute visitors ... you will need to enter your details in the register that will be available.

The Clubhouse:

  • There is NO access to the Kitchen area of the clubhouse

  • Access to the Garage area is limited to 4 nominated persons for the sole purposes of acquiring the equipment required for setting up the timed events and then packing that away.
  • There will be no fruit, water, coffee, tea or milo available.

  • Runners are to bring their own water. A table will be available on which to place your water-bottles. Please use labels to avoid mix-ups.

The event/s:

  • No mass starts

  • No mass finishes

  • No mass stand-around for a presentation

To assist in achieving these outcomes, our events will be conducted as follows:

  • Handicap times will continue to be set as per our usual practice, advised by email and posted to the website.

  • Our practice and intentions have been to bring all participants to the finish line at the same time. This cannot happen.

  • Participants will NOT be called to the start, and there will be no call of start times.

  • Participants are encouraged to start as they arrive.  Come, and go run.

  • Social distancing MUST be observed in the start/finish area at ALL TIMES.

  • There can be no milling about in the start/finish area.

  • For the 10k, the timing mats will be set up from 6:45am till around 8:45am.

  • Please complete your run no later than 8:45am. If you take 90 minutes, please start by 7:00am. If you take 60 minutes, please start by 7:30am.

  • For the 3.5k and 5k, the timing mats will be set-up from 7:00am till 8:30am.

  • Timing chips. You must be wearing your timing chip to have your time recorded.

  • There will be no loan timing chips available on the day.

  • If any member does need a replacement timing chip then please advise the Westies email: handicapper@westiesjoggers.com before 5pm Friday.

  • On the day, unfortunately, if you forget your chip then no result.
  • New starters (usually non-members) on the day will not be timed by chip. They may run the course, time themselves and advise their run time to the handicapper.

  • Any new members must register & pay online before 5pm Friday. Register at https://www.westiesjoggers.com/registration/

  • Bibs. Participants are asked to wear their bibs. This would assist the handicappers in knowing who is in the event and will give other participants an awareness of other competitors on course.

  • There will be no bibs available to borrow on the day.

  • Finish line. Runners are to disperse away from the finish area after crossing the finish timing mats. This can be to warm-down, stretch, or have a chat (in groups less than 20 in number and mindful of social distancing) or depart the Lake vicinity.

  • Results. A winner cannot be determined readily with the come and go start. After the event, not at the Lake, the handicapper will use the recorded chip time and the allocated start time to calculate ‘an across the mat’ time (our ‘gun’ time) for all participants and determine the event and trophy winner.

  • There will be no presentation.

  • The results will be posted online.

  • The random lucky draw winner will be announced online.

  • The winner will receive their trophy on a subsequent run day.

  • Basically, turn up, run and move away and maintain social distancing for the safety of all members and volunteers.

Other matters:

  • if you or your children are feeling unwell, please do not attend club activities for 14 days since you last felt unwell.

  • Hand sanitiser and wipes will be freely available.

  • Only 4 people should be in the vicinity of the stretching bars at any one time to ensure social distancing is maintained.

  • Athletics NSW recommends that people should not run in the slipstream of others where possible.

  • Please bring the correct change for your weekly $2 club fee.

IMPORTANT. VERY IMPORTANT.

Volunteers are required to assist to make the above happen.

We need to ensure compliance with the 1.5m social distancing rule, management of groupings away from the start/finish area, and ensuring non-racers sign the attendance register.

We require the assistance of at least 4 bodies to achieve this. If only 4 are available, then we ask that they be available from 6:45am (on 10k day) to the conclusion of the event.

If our volunteer would normally participate in the handicap, they may run the course at another time, preferably that day or the next day Sunday, self-time, and advise the handicapper of their time prior to Sunday night. Their run for all purposes will be considered to be in the handicap.

If you can assist or have any enquiries, please contact Rob Davo on email: info@westiesjoggers.com by Wednesday night at the latest.
