Another great morning to be at the Lake. Good running conditions. We had 67 starters, 24 of whom bettered handicap, and 22 produced a pb, either on our new course, or on any Westies 3.5k course. The first nine to cross the mats all bettered their handicaps by more than one minute; this nine included the first home, 10 y.o. Kane Knapp, in his 3rd run and a 5 minute pb. Great effort Kane.  And 3 qualified runners, Pat Lewis, Christian Swinfield and Ann Eckert were among the big breakers. Unfortunately, if you better handicap by better than one minute you are ineligible for the trophy. Our other early finishers were qualifiers.

Our trophy winner was Amaan Faiz finishing 6 seconds ahead of Robert Storey, runner-up for the second month running, and then to Alex Bucci. And then they came with a rush. It is an understatement to say that Amaan has been running well ... he is running ‘hot’ ... 3 pbs in his last 3 runs in the 10k, and 3 pbs in his last 4 runs in the 3.5k. Similarly moving very well are Mark Jennings, Sam Mudie, Kayley Sommer and Christian Swinfield, all four having achieved course pbs in each of their last 3 efforts. Keep it going all.

Our fastest on the day was David Riches in 12:23, lowering his own course record by 13 seconds.

With her 3rd run in 4 months, Kayley Sommer has each time lowered the ‘open’ and ‘junior’ course records, this go by 5 seconds, to 15:20.

And Ken Mudie won the Walker’s Trophy for the month – fastest time in 23:18, bettering Sandra Riches by 12 seconds.

Trivia:

Father & son, Ian & Owen both missed their pbs by 1 second.

Brothers Max and Jack, starting off different handicaps, both ran the same time.

Great competitions. A couple of very close ones.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone that participated. All up, another great morning at the Lake.

Thank you to Rob Ellison for the conduct of the event. Thank you to our members who helped with the set-up and take down of everything, the course marking, water, fruit table, mike, mats, photos, etc etc. Appreciated by all.

And please don’t forget – the water cups we are now using are recyclable and being collected for that purpose.
