Handicapper's Report - December 10k Handicap

  • 56 starters
  • 7 having their 1st run
  • 4 pbs
  • And again we had great water station support

A couple of degrees cooler than last month presented better conditions for this run, however the lurking humidity at 80% provided the tester. We must thank Chris, Bert, JV, Aly and the Gregs for their deeds on the water stations, and Barbara on the icicle things at the end. The runners truly appreciate it.

We had 7 new participants doing their first 10k on this course; 5 of these, Matt, Sam, Amit, Harindu and Gibson, were newbies to the club (welcome to you all) and over-estimated their expected run times and finished in the top 10. Regulars Ken Mudie and Kath Dell'Orefice have stepped up from the 3.5k and both achieved better than expected. Ken walked, albeit, with speed to finish in 74, and Kath finished this longer event with her best per k time, when comparing to her other events greater than the 3.5k distance. Plaudits to you both.

Our first ten to finish were the only ones to better handicap. First home was Jacqui Viterale returning to the 10k after a time away from the long course, while setting pbs in the 3.5k, and running a 'wow I finished' qualifier. Then came our 5 newbies.

Then, seventh to cross the mats was our first qualified runner and our trophy winner Alain Rivet with a run time of 55:14, running a 43sec pb on a time set back in October'17. This is the first trophy that Alain has won with the club and a great 'comeback' reward after several months out during the last series with injury.

Alain crossed with Colin Price running his second 10k / qualifier and a big 5 minute pb. Coming in officially 2nd was Steve Pappas in 41:50 with his best in 6 months, passing Andy Hamill in the run into home and into 3rd. Andy's effort was his best in over 12 months. Well done.

Our pb'ers for the day, were Alain and Colin, Dennis McCroary and Lisa Wedgwood. Lisa had a real go after 'sight-seeing' her way around with her previous effort. Great outcomes all.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who took part, to those who helped set-up and clean-up, to our magnificent volunteers on drink stations, and to Davo for chalking up the course, and of course for the great photos. We wouldn't have an event without all of you.
