Westies has a new President

Peter Watson is the new president of our Westies club. A big thank you to Peter for accepting the nomination and being duly elected.

Our immediate past president, Neil Saltmarsh had cause to step down in October for personal reasons, not club related.

Since that time the position has been vacant while our two vice-presidents shared the responsibilities required of that position. These two are already heavily committed club wise and really don’t have any more personal time to take on additional club duties. (Thanks Joan & Rob).

Some of our members have got to know Peter well. To many, he would still be a relative unknown. Peter has been very active on committee since he came on back in August. His evident keenness to participate in the club both administratively and as a runner, his bonding with several of us on the Trailwalker event and weekend, and blended with his personal qualities and attributes, gave a few of us an early insight that we had a great asset on board. And the committee thought likewise when considering Peter for president recently.

Peter came to the club in October 2014. He was new to the area, and a runner, and he considered that joining up with Westies was a way to meeting local people. He ran 11 marathons in 2015 plus the 100k Trailwalker and an 80k solo run for Destiny Rescue, all confirming a Westie trait of having a running addiction. His two goals include taking his 37 current marathon tally to 50 in 2016 and to run the North Island of New Zealand over December 2016 - January 2017.

For a day job, Peter is a trainer and consultant in Community Services.

A couple or words from Peter: “I am greatly looking forward to serving the Westies Club as President. I have absolutely loved getting to know people at Westies and think it is an amazing club”.
