The Lake Gillawarna Makeover is complete and officially opened:

In late December we were advised by Bankstown Council that the Lake makeover was complete. The pathways that had been fenced-off were re-opened and Westies resumed their running and walking on those tracks that had been unavailable since last April. Our 10k handicap returned to its old course in February, and the new 3.5k course is now run on some of this opened pathway. Our Heart of the Lake 10k and 3k on 1 June will also return to the courses used for many years.

Our new look Lake was officially ‘opened’ in recent days.

As reported in the Bankstown Torch newspaper:

GEORGES Hall's Lake Gillawarna has undergone a $740,000 upgrade, and the community were invited to attend an open day to view the changes.
Bankstown City Council has completed the rehabilitation of the island and improved access to the lake and surrounding area. A viewing deck and seating, along with two interactive stations for visitors to learn more about the history of the area, is expected to attract more visitors to the already popular parkland. More than 29,000 native and aquatic plants have also been planted around the lake.

"The work at Lake Gillawarna has not only made the area safer and more attractive for visitors and local residents alike, but also ensures the future preservation of the lake," Cr Waud said.

We have always acknowledged that Westies were fortunate to have our Lake area to run/walk about. And it has just got better.
