Hats off to Gary Dalton who put in a superb effort at the October 3.4km handicap race to smash the course record by a huge 19 seconds!  Gary's previous best of 12:26, which equalled the course record set by Leon Baldwin in October 2004, was set in May. Since that time, Gary had set his sights on breaking the record, training specifically for the October handicap race.

Gary started the race in equal last position off a handicap of 18 minutes 25 seconds. Soon after his explosive start, he shook off fellow competitor Patrick van Dyk and continued to power around the course at a blistering pace, averaging an amazing 3:34 per km!

The new record of 12:07 sets a high bar for anyone else to reach and is a magnificent result for the hard work that Gary has put into his training for this event.  Well done to Gary on his outstanding achievement!
