2017 November 3.5km handicap results

What a great morning at the Lake yesterday. Weather was perfect and the company great, and made even better by the presence of both Ricardo and Peter (Di Michiel). It was great to see them in the better state of health than where both have been recently.  And we continue to wish you both and Crofty too, the very best in your continued recoveries.

November 3.5k handicap – first report

  • 57 starters
  • 15 bettered handicap
  • 6 pbs

We had 57 starters in really good conditions for running, backing up the 63 for last month. Continued great numbers. We now have had a total of 83 toe the line across these first 3 months of the 2017-18 series.

We had a couple of regular faces start their 3.5k campaigns, Ann Owen and Tony Farrell, and we welcome back Tracy Lee after a lengthy absence.

First to cross the mat was Raewyn Williams, running back into form after a bit of an enforced layoff. Raewyn smashed it, 22:47, feeling her best for a while, so much so she bettered the threshold by more than 7 minutes. She under-estimated her fitness and resolve. Good to see you back Raewyn.

Next to cross the mats was 10 year old Zoe Turner, both bettering the threshold and a qualifierDad told her thatshe had a chip and she should use it. This was her second run, 26:30, and she knocked a whooping 7 minutes and 7 seconds off last month’s effort. If that wasn’t great enough, Zoe won chocolates in the random draw. Now, isn’t that worth coming to the Lake with dad on a Saturday morning. Well done Zoe.

Next home was Lucia Condos. Since returning to the Lake in August, Lucia has done better and better each go, this time 28:14, and in giving her best, unfortunately broke the handicap threshold by 5 seconds.

Another qualifier was in next, being, Steve Pappas, having his second run. Steve ran 13:07 and took 42 secs off his first effort. Good one Steve.

The next to cross the mats was our trophy winnerDesie Joannides, in 18:33. Well done Desie, congratulations big time.

Then we had a race for the line for 2nd and 3rd placings, between two of our Lisa’s, with Lisa Wedgwood holding on to better Lisa Sommer by 1 second. Run times were respectively 23:41 and 18:02. This was Lisa W’s pb by 24 secs, and Lisa S’s best time since her pb near 2 years ago. Great contest ladies. Congratulations to the dueling Lisa’s!

Among the next few through the finish line we had Jacqui Viterale running 15:44, a 12 sec pbCraig Burns 19:09, a 7 sec pb, and then Leidy Castro, also a 7 sec pb to run 15:55 and first- time sub 16 minutes.

Great running and effort by everyone that participated.
