This run was #2 (of 12) in the 2014-15 series of the 3.5k handicap. Another beautiful spring morning. Another good day with fast running in the air!

57 starters. We had another new starter this month, Thai Nguyen, who ran a 15:33 with his first effort. Good run mate.

17 competitors achieved personal bests this go, always a great outcome for that extra effort.

The first three to cross the line were under the qualifying threshold (30:00) and ineligible for the trophy. At the head of the pack was Joan Eisenhuth on her way back to fitness with a two and a half minute pb on this course. Her time 21:23. Joan finished ahead of Leo Sommer and the born again Westie, Paul Croft.

Next home, officially first and our trophy winner was Christine Burke. Christine jumped into the 17s for the first time (17:51) with a 33 second pb. Is Christine putting in some secret training to have another crack at the Gold Coast long one next year? Well done Christine. Keep on rockin’ & rollin’.

Kayley Sommer finished 2nd six seconds behind. Kayley was determined to beat mum this go and cracked 20:00 for the first time, going 19:17, a big 56 pb. Great run Kayley.

In 3rd, on the comeback trail is Raff Aquilina. Well done Raff.

Our fastest on the day was again Neil Saltmarsh, running 13:49, only 2 seconds off the course record. Sooooo close. Next time?.

For the males, Neil lead home Toan Truong in 14:14 from Nathan Mudie in 14:42.

In the female challenge, Stephanie Bilic had the fastest time of 14:15, her best since setting the female course record at 14:04 some five months ago. Next quickest were Gina Jessop in 16:09 and Raff in 16:16.

Congratulations to everyone that participated.

Photos and comments of the event were posted on the club’s facebook, courtesy of Rob Davo. Thank you to everyone who contributes to the organisation of the event on the day. Rob Ellison had new help with the handicap this month with Di Karageorgis doing the timing with Rob. And thanks again to Lianne Christall and her new help Lisa Bennett for their recording.

The ‘Lucky stick’ and ticket winners were Kayley Sommer and Dot Siepmann.
