2016 September 10km handicap results

A great turnout of 53 starters to kick off the new series, 1 more than the best for the series just finished, and that co-incidentally was also September last go. There were a number having their first run in the event including Greg Wright andDarren Alchin, both first time visitors to our club. Returning from long term injuries were Elwyn Elms and Daniel Illingworth, both have suffered multiple setbacks for more than 12 months and great to see both back on the track. And stepping up from the 3.5k were Leo Sommer (still beaming from his half marathon at the Volunteers Run), Christine Burke (now finished chasing pokemons) and Marly Greenwood (trying another Westie course). All up there were 19 re-qualifiers or qualifiers.

The weather was one of those funny mornings. Drizzle early, a bit of wind, then seemingly warm on course. Only two qualified runners managed to better handicap. Our first four to cross the mats were either qualifiers or re-qualifiers, and one Vateesh Chand with his 3rd qualifier returned a true time now that he seems to have shaken the calf injury that has dogged him for a few months, a pb run of 46:30 when his best had been in the 52s.

First officially home and our trophy winner was Tony Sinibaldi running a 58s pb to finish in 53:06. Officially 2nd was Wayne Layt, also enjoying his pb run (by 23s) running 53:40, and 3rd was Kerrie Persen in 50:08, 8 secs over handicap.

Fastest on the day were Lorri Di Lucchio in 39:37, from Steve Pappas 41:03 and Lilian Molesworth 42:18.

The random spot prize draw was won by Paul Webb, who scored a nice box of chocolate truffles.

A special thank you to everyone that helped out setting up the event, or wrapping it up afterwards. Very much appreciated.
