10k Handicap results from Saturday 7 May 2016

The cooler conditions provided excellent running conditions for our runners. When Chris crossed the mats as our first starter, the temp was still less than 9 degrees, and when the event was over, we had just reached 13. What a change to the steamy conditions of recent months. Ergo we had many pbs and outstanding results.

First to cross the line and our trophy winner was Sue Reynolds.

Mentioned in the previous email was that Sue was dq’d in the previous handicap running a great time that bettered her handicap by greater than 2 minutes. In recognition and reward for her continued improvements, on Saturday we presented Sue with a club backpack, bearing her name embroidered courtesy of Rob Ellison. I did not expect Sue to back up with another great pb run (by 1m 29s) to carry off this day. Congratulations Sue.

Sue finished 42secs ahead of 2nd, Tony Farrell, backing up from the Ironman last weekend, still on his Ironman pb high, and running his new course pb of 54:57, a 2m 33s improvement.

Next to cross the line was Kevin Dixon, running his first qualifier, since his last run in the handicap 15 months ago. Kev was an Ironman in years gone by; inspired by the vibes and results from last weekend, Kevin has started his comeback journey for next year.

Officially 3rd was Bruce Driscoll. This was Bruce’s third top 3 finish in as many months. There was a 33 sec gap between Tony & Bruce ... and then the hordes came ... 6 finishers very close.

Steve Pappas was 4th home and our fastest on the day with the new course record of 39:31, improving his effort on last month’s record by 32 seconds. Go Steve. Our fastest female was Lisa Bennett with 46:15; this was not super quick for Lisa but a confident comeback run after a knee entry that has kept Lisa quiet in recent weeks.

Thank you to all who participated, and to the many who help with the set up, and put away. All truly appreciated.

Our winner of random spot draw was #19 was Mark Hadaway and the lucky ticket Greg White, both opting for a bottle of red.
