This was the first run of the 2014-15 series.

Firstly, always, thanks to the Westies who were on hand to set-up and take down. Much appreciated.

We had 37 starters, including new member Dean Turner. Lucia Barone was stepping up from the 3.5k, well done Lucia and welcome. We had re-qualifiers of Peter Brouwer, Steve Bond, Mike O’Mara andCarl Simpson who had missed recent runs for reason of a mix of work, injury and travel; and a welcome back to the handicap to Pat Browne after a 4 years absence.

A few of the regulars were missing, for reason that they were saving themselves for the Half on the Sunday. Others doubled up, including Lisa, Bart, Brett and Mick K.

First to cross the line was Alex Bucci having her second qualifier, and 2 minutes quicker than last month’s handicap, in 56:38.

Next home was Lucia Barone having her first handicap run, returning a 77:05, a minute quicker than expectations gleaned from her training runs.

Third to cross and our winner and trophy winner was Bruce Driscoll, in a time of 41:37, his best time since April 2013 (40:22). Bruce crossed just under a minute under handicap. Well done Bruce. Congratulations.

Kyle Macdonald was next, officially 2nd and our fastest on the day, in his pb time of 32:54. Kyle ran a pb back in July of 33:14, so he has obviously knocked this off. Kyle was the last off the Start line and was beaten by only 2 seconds. A mighty mighty effort Kyle, and congratulations on a great great run!

Steve Bond crossed next. Steve was having a re-qualifying run after having missed the last 3 runs, and he ran a pb of 47:14, bettering his 47:30 in March 2013.

John Child ran in officially 3rd with his 42:49, his best in two years; 42:27 was his time in September’12 and this is his best since.

Mark Hadaway was next with 51:27, with his best effort since November’12.

Paul Webb was next with 38:21, maintaining a period of better running for Paul of low 38s.

And our final runner to better handicap was our newbie Dean Turner with his first run of 46:50.

Kyle was our fastest on the day, and Lisa Bennett was our fastest female with 43:34.

Our photographers captured the event and all went to facebook last Saturday.

Thanks everyone for participating.
